Editorial Code of Practice

  1. The Publisher
The Publisher of Sameway Magazine holds legal responsibility for the publication, ensuring its societal impact is positive and handling complaints. The Publisher’s decisions are final in operational matters.
  2. The Chief Editor
The Chief Editor oversees all editorial content, ensuring accuracy and alignment across printed, electronic, and online formats.
  3. Editors
Editors maintain responsibility for the accuracy and objectivity of their articles. Content produced by multiple editors is attributed to the “editorial team,” with the Chief Editor holding ultimate responsibility.
  4. Designer
The Designer ensures that all graphical content respects privacy standards and avoids using private material without consent in all formats.
  5. Distribution
The Publisher and their delegates manage the magazine’s distribution.
  6. Privacy
Sameway respects individual privacy, including private life, correspondence, and communications. Intrusions must be justified, considering prior public disclosures or the public domain status of the content. Unconsented photography in private spaces is prohibited.
  7. Harassment
Journalists must avoid intimidation or persistent pursuit. Requests to desist must be respected, and identification as a Sameway journalist is required. Editors are accountable for compliance within their teams.
  8. Victims of Sexual Assault
Victims will not be identified without legal justification or consent from a senior editor.
  9. Discrimination and Incitement to Hatred
Journalists must avoid prejudicial references based on race, religion, gender, or other characteristics unless relevant to the story.
  10. Confidential Sources
Journalists are ethically obligated to protect the identities of confidential sources.
  11. Public Interest
The public interest may justify exceptions to certain editorial clauses. This includes exposing crime, protecting public health, and raising matters of public debate. Exceptions require approval from senior editors, with proportionality and contribution to public discourse being key considerations.
  • Freedom of expression is a recognized public interest.
  • The interests of individuals under 18 are paramount unless outweighed by exceptional public interest.
