Can Morrison be a world leader?

In August Sweden girl Greta Thunberg arrived New York from Europe across the Atlantic after 14 days in a solar energy yachtwith zero-emission. On 23rd September she made a speech at the World Climate Change Summit. She cried out to the world leaders on their indifference to the devastating impact the world climate change is making on the future generations. Indeed, before this day she called upon millions of youngsters in 150 countries around the world for joining street rallies, work and school strikes. They were all determined to fight against global warming. Australian PM Morrison was on a visit to the US but he remained silent on it.

Meanwhile Morrison also received warm and high-profile reception from President Donald Trump. Over state banquet and several meetings Morrison committed Australia’s alliance relation and friendship with the US for the next 100 years. Chinese party press Global Times however said this alliance would only make Australia isolated. For long Australia has been sitting on a fence between acting as a strategic partner with the US and aiming for better trade and economic relation with China. With China’s discontent voiced, we are yet to see how Morrison could strike a fine balance between these two super powers.

On 24th September, 91 national leaders turned up at the 74th UN General Assembly 2019 in New York, Morrison was there to make a speech to the Assembly. When he came to power in August last year he was regarded as a PM on transit. But now he is in control of the majority in Parliament with his policies in full swing, winning support from the public and party members. His performance is unexpectedly good.

Earlier on there was suggestion that,in view of the Hong Kong situation, Morrison should consider modelling on PM Bob Hawke’s move 30 years ago to grant residence to Chinese students studying here after the June 4 incident, such that they could live in a democratic society. Morrison replied in the negative. Hong Kongers however with an average IQ of 107 topping the world, and equipped with high levels of education and productivity, should be welcomed as an asset to the long-term benefit of local society development, if those after freedom and democracy were allowed to stay.

I believe if Morrison is a political leader with vision, Australia should be able to help out Hong Kong amid a shrinkage of freedom there.
